Ronald McDonald House

At Ronald McDonald House Hobart, we are thrilled to incorporate the Buddy Boo into our supportive environment for families. These mental health toys have quickly become an invaluable resource, helping the children in our care express their feelings as they navigate challenging medical journeys. The Buddy Boo provides a safe, approachable, and interactive way for children to communicate emotions that can often be hard to articulate, especially during treatment. Whether in the comfort of the house or over in the hospital setting, the Buddy Boo serves
as a gentle tool to foster connection, emotional well-being, and resilience. We are so excited to see the positive impact these boos will continue to have, empowering children to share their feelings and supporting the important work we do in making the house feel like a home. Thank you for creating such a thoughtful and effective tool for families facing difficult times.

Counsellor and mental health educator

As a Mental Health Educator and Parent I have explored a number of emotion-based resources and to date Boo is by far my favourite. I have seen Boo support children in so many ways from healthy emotional expression ‘in the moment’ to exploring many important concepts around feelings outside of the moment. I love that Boo is a friendly character that can be used in a playful way to make learning about emotions fun for children of all ages (even us big kids!). The emotion badges act as a beautiful visual for children and Boo’s size and cuddle-ability make him the perfect comforting pal. I wish every household, hospital room and school had a Boo to help normalise all emotions and support children to make sense of their big feelings.

"Emotions are a normal response to the exciting and sometimes scary world around us – it's what makes us human.  When children aren’t given the opportunity to express their emotions in a safe and containing way, they can get stuck, leading to difficulties with self-regulation, behavioural issues, and can negatively impact the relationship they have with themselves and others. As it’s often hard for children to find the words to express their feelings and to get their needs met, getting creative to help them express themselves is so important to their social and emotional development. Buddy Boo is an amazing way for children to name their emotions in a way that alerts their caregivers that they need support, comfort or even someone to share in the good experiences with, as everyone, adult or child, needs."
